KITTIE Singer MORGAN LANDER: 'We Are Grown-Ass Women Now'

In a brand-new interview with the Dallas Music Guide, the girls of KITTIE spoke about the continued attention they are receiving as a result of being women in a male-dominated musical genre. Asked if they've gotten past the preconceived notions people have about them because of their gender, KITTIE frontwoman Morgan Lander said, "I don't think we ever will be, as unfortunate as it is. We're all still girls, and that will never change the public's opinion or how some people view women in music and in metal, but by no means are we sitting here and whining about it. We have a great time, we're a great band, and that’s cool. People are missing out. Unfortunately, a lot of people still see us as they saw us back in 1999 when we first came out. We're grown-ass women now, you know what I mean. We're not fifteen anymore, whining about certain things, we’re just kickin' it. We strive to be better, and we're allowed to do that, every band is."

With regards to how the songwriting dynamic has changed with the addition of new members, bassist Jennifer Arroyo and guitarist Lisa Marx, Morgan said, "When you have a bunch of people in a band, everyone sees things differently. I think the difference about [the upcoming album] 'Until the End', and as it will be with all the rest of the albums, is that it used to be just my riff, and the bass player would play the root note of whatever chord it was. Mercedes has always been a very integral part with arranging the drums, because, obviously, I don’t play the drums, so whatever. But this time around, it is different because there are actual bass lines, as well as the arranging. It's cool, because everyone's ideas come together of what they want the song to be, and so when we throw it all together, it's great."
